Should I remove the mylar on my CPU and GPU to clean?

I'm cleaning and reapplying thermal paste to my laptop. I noticed that some of the previous thermal paste spread underneath the mylar film protecting the GPU and CPU. Should I lift up the mylar to clean it off or just leave it?

@lightningg25 that's a tricky one. IF you are sure it was non-conductive paste I would probably leave it. I would hate to knock off any of the small components when cleaning it. If unsure, then yes, I would remove it and replace the mylar as well. It is to protect the smaller components from the heat. Make sure that you use non-conductive thermal paste. Definitely shows what happens when one applies to much of a good thing.

I haven't applied any thermal paste on it until now so guess it was like this when I bought the computer. I've got some leftover Noctua paste from my desktop build which I believe is non-conductive. I have no idea if the previous paste was conductive or not.

@lightningg25 Leaving it, is definitely the safest way. Since it has been on there since the start and has not caused any issues, why look for any. Your paste is good to go as well.

I contacted the Asus just in case and they said to just leave it, thank you both for your answers they were very helpful!
