do you mean Face ID works only sometimes? Are you trying to set it up in settings or just unlock phone? If you have replaced your TrueDepth camera then it will not work unless it is calibrated by apple . If it's not that then you may have A.)either a storage space issue (if just using your phone normally) or

B.) scratches on the screen exterior on the notch or lastly,

C.) possibly liquid damage.
