Recently my child left his Switch in his father’s car. It was in there for several weeks (hidden in a seat pocket) during a heat wave. Now the Switch won’t turn on and it won’t charge, and of course, I’m wondering if the heat damaged it. How do I figure out what’s wrong and if it can be fixed?

Heat can damage a Li-ion battery. But if it wasn't in direct Sun it is questionable.
Other components inside might not like being stored in high heat. But that is less likely.
So, start with a battery replacement if you are willing to chance the expense. It may not be the battery.
