First, let us know what model your TV is. You picked the Sony KDL50W800C but we need to make sure. After that, unplug the TV and remove the back cover. Now take a look at the individual boards. Check for missing, charred looking components or burned traces. Check the heatsinks on the power board. I would suspect some MOSFET (as well as bad capacitors) being the cause for that.
