This is a Samsung Galaxy A 8, model sm-t387v. When powered off and plugged in, the screen shows a circle with lightning bolt but no percentage - see image. So the USB charge port is working but the battery isn't charging.

@klankster looks like your battery is dead. SInce iFixit does not yet have the guide for your model, use something like this video. Replace the battery and reevaluate.
While you work on your tablet, take lots of pictures. Once you are done with it, take those pictures and create a guide for iFixit. That will help the next person that has the same problem as you do.
