My new Samsung Smart TV Standby Light is not steady red when TV is off

I just got a new Samsung 32" smart TV. It works beautifully but something is wrong. The standby light goes off when the TV is on, that's fine. However, when the TV is off, the red light goes on for 15 seconds then off for 4 seconds. It doesn't change this pattern. Samsung customer service has no idea why despite many calls in the hope that someone will know what is causing this so it can be fixed. This 15/4 pattern does not sound like a coincidence. It seems that it is somehow programmed to be this specific. I can return the TV but prefer not to because a new one may do the same thing. I tried every troubleshooting, plugging into other outlets, unplugging. I hope that someone can solve this mystery! Thank you.

Update (02/22/24)

The model number is UN32N5300AFXA. This morning the red light was steady. I went to turn on the TV and it said "no signal". I then went to SOURCE on the Samsung remote and it was on HDMI 2. I must have been experimenting last night. Of course, there was no signal since the TV is on HDMI 1. But that may be a clue as to why the red light didn't do that crazy thing. I just ordered another HDMI cord (3 feet rather than the 6 foot I have now). I can always return it but somehow don't think that is the culprit. I don't know how to open my TV and do all the investigations that I see on this group. I just hope someone knows what is causing this. Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate any input. This is so frustrating. I am a ham radio operator and know all that stuff but this, nope :-(

Hi @greenfern,

Personally I wouldn't open it as this will void any manufacturer's warranty on the TV.

You may have to experiment to hopefully try to isolate the problem to a point where you can make it happen rather than it is occurring by itself and if you can't then as you have done all that a user is expected to do in the event of a problem (especially if the warranty is still valid), this sort of proves that it is internal to the TV

You have tried different power outlets but can you try a different, known working compatible power cord, just to eliminate it as a possible cause?

When the TV is on and working OK, is the power light showing i.e. changed from red to another colour?

Try disconnecting everything (do you have "Smart hub" connected to the TV?) from the TV except the power cord and check if the power light stays on or does go off. This will indicate whether it is internal to the TV or maybe that an external source is possibly the cause. Also remove the batteries from the remote control and cover/block the TV's IR receiver window (where you point the remote at, usually in the bezel at the bottom of the screen) so that nothing can trigger it that way e.g. in the past it was known that in certain instances, faulty CFL lights (or even ordinary fluorescent lights) could emit IR that could affect the operation of TVs etc.
