MacBook Pro 14" (2021) requires entire top case replacement?

Hey there,

my MacBook Pro 14" (2021) got dropped heavily and the screen is broken and it has a visible dent in the bottom right corner of the case.

I brought it to an official Apple Repair Shop and they told me that not just the Display, but as well the Battery needs a replacement. They don't just change the battery but quoted the entire "Top Case with Battery".

As the quote came in at $1.500 it's roughly 50% of what a brand new one costs so I am unsure if it's worth it and might want to try repairing it myself instead.

I saw that on iFixIt there is a guide and part for just replacing the battery as well. is that viable or should I get the same part apple service is quoting, e.G. the entire top case (with battery)?

As long as you follow guides very carefully there should be no reason not to repair it yourself. Depending on how bad the damage is I would also follow the advice from the Apple Repair Shop just to be on the safe side if there is a lot of damage to the area where the battery is located.

If the battery is damaged, you will need to replace it.

Is the main body of the case still intact? Otherwise you do not need to replace it. The battery is very easy to swap out. The apple repair people are notorious for trying to pull as much money out of your pocket.

Can you open the back panel and send a picture through? I want to know if anything is damaged inside.
