no display, fan spins for 2 seconds and stops, led on

I have this Toshiba satellite laptop that is now dead?? So what happened was I was trying to install windows and while installing I got an error (I always got it) when it was half way done installing i had to cancel the operation and wait until it was fully cancelled it took around 5-7 minutes then turn off the laptop and remove one stick of ram and the other changing the slot for each time I got that error I had 2×2GB DDR2 rams and that method worked but had to try a lot until it was succeeded, but then one time I wanted to go from Linux back to windows I was using that method and I was kinda sure it was gonna work but I had to do it for like 4-5 times cuz it was failing and getting an error had to change the slot... after the 2nd time I canceled the operation... But didn't wait until it was fully cancelled I shutted the laptop off I thought it would save me time... And after that it never turned back on

and the ram is okay I think I changed the ram with another good laptop it worked I put in the rams I got from my laptop and they worked too so it means the ram is okay...

What is the cause of this problem I'm trying so hard on getting it to work but absolutely no luck...

We need information in order to help you.

Exactly which model of Toshiba Satellite do you have?

What was the error message you got while trying to install Windows?

What version of Windows were you trying to install?

When you tested the RAM on another computer did you run a RAM test - often in BIOS there is a RAM test diagnostic.

@aactech

1- it's Toshiba satellite A355-S6935

2- I don't really remember because it was quiet long ago

3- I was trying to install windows 10 pro

4- I didn't, but I did have 2 more sticks of ram each 1GB but still nothing

Hi @areekube

I revised the Answer some what. Have a look.

Hi @areekube

Hopefully before you did anything you took the battery out. Right?

Some thoughts. Better to install Windows 10 Home 64bit. You will want at least a matching pair of 2GB for total 4GB. Some claim it will take 2 x 4GB for total 8GB ????

"DDR2 PC2-5300 667MHz 1.8v Non-ECC SODIMM"

This is important.

This laptop can also be upgraded to SSD drive for better speed. Recommended.

Things to try to isolate the problem

  • Getting into BIOS by pressing F2 or Esc key while powering up.

BIOS setup / settings

  • Take battery out and just use the power supply/charger.
  • Disassemble video for the A300. May be close to your A355.

Video - click here

  • Confirm that the RAM is correct for your laptop - specs above - Take out the RAM and try each single module in each of the two slots.
  • Take out hard drtive and see if you can get into BIOS settings screen.

Maintenance Manual may help.

It has troubleshooting flow charts, c., etc. Download it and have a read through.

Other information:

Drivers, BIOS updates, etc. Enter your laptop's serial number in the top box.

Let us know how it goes.

@aactech I tried everything before you said I have been trying for like months it doesn't even show a screen to get into bios even with the hard drive removed, I put the in the slots like (one time only one and on the button slot then again only one but on the top slot then the other one the same then both changing and yea), with battery and without battery it turns on like I said only fan spin for 2 sec and then stops and absolutely nothing comes on the screen but the LEDs are still on, yea I have a pair of 2GB DDR2 and two pairs of 1GB DDR2 tried everything, like I said I took out the GPU I thought if it turn back on it means that the problem is the GPU but no, and I really doubt... The CPU is dead.. I don't want to buy a new one cuz I don't wanna spend much money on a CPU the laptop is old and can barely handle anything...

Also something I didn't say, so I had an old CPU kinda the same but it had one extra pin??? On the side, I made a hole for it and just for cuz I knew the laptop never gonna turn on and is dead and won't spend money on I put the CPU in and turned it on and a little... MOSFET? Burned I don't think it had anything to do with the CPU it was near it but I think it was for the VGA port thingy... It was neart that as well and yea I don't think that is the problem because I did that after I tried literally everything I possibly can....
