Why does my microwave no longer heat?

Since yesterday my microwave stopped heating the food, in grill mode it works fine but in the three classic modes it stopped heating the food, the light and the plate work, everything seems perfectly normal, I can't understand the nature of the problem

Hi @albertoarthas

Unfortunately, De Longhi doesn't provide service manuals so there's no schematic diagram for your oven that I can link to show you how it works.

Basically, in microwave ovens it is the magnetron that produces the microwaves that cook the food. This is powered by a High Voltage (HV) transformer, diode and capacitor network which provide the necessary voltage i.e. ~5000V DC for it to work.

The HV power circuit is controlled by the control board and there are also door switches involved that should turn off the power to the magnetron and the turntable if the door is opened whilst it is cooking. These switches are a safety feature, used to prevent harmful microwave radiation escaping from the oven cavity when it is operating. The oven cavity becomes a Faraday cage which prevents the microwaves from escaping when the door is closed.

So it could be faulty door switch(s), a faulty control board, or a faulty component in the HV circuit i.e. HV transformer, HV diode, HV capacitor and the magnetron.

Sorry to be so vague but without a wiring diagram, you would need to check all of the components mentioned to find out what's wrong

Here's a parts list that may help.

Be safety aware if you decide to open the oven to see what may be wrong. The HV capacitor in the oven can store >5000V DC for months even if the power to the oven has been disconnected for this length of time. This amount of voltage can seriously injure you. The HV capacitor needs to be correctly discharged as soon as it can be accessed after removing the cover from the oven and before any further work inside the oven is carried out. If you don't know how to do this then call a reputable, professional appliance repair service and ask for a quote

I don't think is switch door fault 'cause the microwave can grill and the plate can turn and the light turn on in the meanwhile. Maybe I can check the control board or the transformer and at least the magetron, I don't know how much it's worth it actually

@albertoarthas

Depends on how the circuit is wired.

In microwave ovens usually there are 3 door switches. Two make switches and 1 break switch

The two make switches close when the door is closed and the break switch opens when the door is closed.

It is called the monitor switch and the other two are the primary and secondary interlock switches.

The primary interlock switch provides the power for the control board, turntable, light and the fan and usually the secondary interlock switch does the HV circuit.

It is the break switch that opens that is the safety feature for the HV circuit.

IF for example the secondary interlock switch wasn't closing when the door is shut then the HV circuit couldn't function but the rest of the oven components could
