Is it possible to upgrade the display?

Okay, so I am trying to upgrade the display on my late 2012 mac, is there any thing that would prevent me from buying a retina 21.5" panel and putting it in my 21.5" non-retina imac?

Sadly itโ€™s not that simple ๐Ÿ˜ข

The graphics services within your system is within the Intel CPU chip itโ€™s not powerful enough to drive anything larger.

Letโ€™s make sure we understand the screen size is not the issue itโ€™s the resolution of the display. Think of it this wayโ€ฆ I have a projector shining onto a wall, I can push the projector forward making the image smaller and as I do so the resolution is the same just tighter! Likewise as I pull the projector away from the wall the image starts to breakdown as there is a need for more scans (scan rate) this is where a retina or 4/5k display can offer more Image fidelity. But! The graphics engine needs to offer that, otherwise you just have a portion of the screen used with the rest blank!
