Fans running full/battery service showing after battery replacement

Replaced the battery with new iFixit battery and when system starts to boot (still at Apple logo), fans turn on full and stay on full after OS startup. After boot, battery icon is showing an X and shows battery service recommended in system settings.

Battery data cable/connector problem perhaps?

Update (02/16/25)

Here's a snap of Coconut battery as requested. Also note that when I seated the battery data cable into the zif socket on the logic board side, the zif lock piece went flying when I pushed it down. Cable seems to be seated ok otherwise...

I would install this gem of an App CoconutBattery let’s see what it tells us. Take a snapshot of the Apps main window and post it here so we can see it.

I just found this video below and did the tape insert under the connector as shown and it worked great! Secured it with another piece on top and all good. System is charging up now... :)

I've asked one of the thread commenters to post the zif connector part for future reference in case someone wants to replace it or just the latch.

Well, that explains it! without the latch you don’t have a firm connection!

Looking at CoconutBattery we can see the level bars are not present as the real time data feed (as well as the values) the from the BMS within the battery assembly to SMC. When SMC doesn’t get the batteries data it goes into CPU Safe Mode lowering the CPU’s clocking as well as pumping up the fans RPM’s as it wants to prevent the system from overheating.

At this point you’ll need to find the latch if you can or get a replacement connector to snap it off to then put onto your systems.

There is a slim possibility of cutting to size a thin layer of tape over the top of the connecting cable and to try to get it inside the connector to wedge the connection, this may work but may also totally damage the cable if it failed.....

Yes, I found a video of where someone repaired this exact same cable/problem by putting a piece of cellophane tape under the cable end. It applies enough pressure upwards to mate the connectors.

The cable is easily replaceable but finding a scrap logic board or replacement zif connector to salvage that hinge piece is not as easy. Prolly someone that does Macbook repair would have a junk board laying around but don't know anyone off the top of my head.

@mikegendim67840 - It not that hard! Just order a new connector from the parts houses. It’s a standard connector, I’ll need to look it up again as I don’t have any in my parts collection.

Hey Dan, I was able to fix using the piece of tape method as shown in my answer above but please post the zif connector part anyway. Seems to be a common repair problem so could be helpful for others. Thanks!
