Lenovo Yoga C930 13ikb: events 524 after battery replacement

Hi all,

I have replaced the original battery in my C930 with a noname battery from Amazon. It holds charge like a boss, but specifically when on AC power it intermittently encounters event 524 and hibernates. I disabled hibernation on critical battery state and hibernation is now prevented. Instead, when the battery is fully charged, the charge meter suddenly goes to zero and the critical state is obviously still recorded. I have the latest Lenovo BIOS, but that's a fairly old laptop and software updates have stopped a while back.

I tried two of these batteries and both cause this behavior. Other observations: when discharging to 5%, the laptop will go down to 6% and then completely run out of juice and just power off (not cleanly shutdown or hibernate), which suggests that the reported charge level is incorrect. When charging, it will go up to maybe 96% and then spend over an hour getting to 100%. This happens on every discharge-recharge cycle, which I did maybe 3-4 times. Batteryreport says the capacity is something like 63700 while the designed capacity is 60600.

I think I am still within my return window, which leads to my main questions:

  1. Any idea what is actually happening and are there ways to fix this on the software side?
  2. If this is a hardware issue, can someone please recommend a good battery for this laptop?

Windows 10 with all updates installed, batteryreport shows Simplio as the manufacturer. Thanks for your help!

Just to add the photo of my battery connector. There's a bunch of posts all over the internet blaming the loose connection, but I don't think I could push it in any further.

Hi @designated10301

Try uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method battery drivers in Device Manager > Battery, and then when they have been uninstalled, close all open windows and restart the laptop in the normal manner.

During the following startup, Windows will reinstall the drivers. Check if the battery shows that it is charging correctly etc. If it does allow it to fully charge (if necessary) and then check if it now works OK

Thanks for responding! This has already been done, unfortunately -- it still does what I described. Could there be registry remnants of lenovo crap that came with its battery? Because I think the OS is still using some of those settings, like no charging when connecting to AC with 95% level or above.

In Lenovo Vantage its probably set to not charge if the battery is above a certain %, usually 90 or 95% - that would explain why it doesn't charge when battery is 95% - to protect battery from overcharging, I believe.

Event 524 - I found this from Googling:

https://superuser.com/questions/1341383/...

"When I went to the "Edit Power Plan" Menu, then navigated to "Advanced Power Settings", then "Battery" I found that the Critical Battery Level had been set to 86%."

What is the power plan and what is the critical battery level set to in the power plan?

Otherwise it seems the calibration must be way off.

Yes, the overcharge protection was there since day one, I don't mind it, was just saying that whatever battery settings it had for the original battery may still be applied even after uninstalling/reinstalling it in windows.

About my power plan: the critical battery level is set to 2% for both on battery and AC. Not really sure what to do at this point...

Try resetting the BIOS back to default either using the BIOS setting or a complete power refresh by removing both the battery and the cmos battery from the mobo

Done -- let's see what happens.
