Why is my laptop not turning on?

Hi

My HP Pavilion x360 13-S104NE has stopped turning on after replacing the battery thanks to AliExpress shipping me a battery with reversed polarity at the terminals which fried the motherboard

The motherboard is the main fried component, but the screen and keyboard/trackpad assembly are also broken, as well as many missing screws thanks to my idiot brother, totaling new parts for repair at nearly $700, and considering this is a 9-year-old laptop, my dad says it is not worth repairing, but he wont buy a new laptop either

Any other ideas other than an entire new motherboard such a specific chip? The rest of the components could be taken care of by turning it into a desktop setup, and fixing it slowly as I save up, although considering I don't have an allowance and get my cash by finding coins on the street every few months, that is probably going to take years

EDIT 29/3/25: When connected to the charger some of the capacitors near the charge port become really hot capping at over 63°C

Hi @aadamomar

What's the make and model number of the motherboard (printed on the board itself), e.g. Quanta ??????, or Compal LA-????? or Fauchon BDW MB ???? etc?

Knowing the board model will hopefully make it easier to find the schematics for the motherboard because searching online for "HP Pavilion x360 13-S104NE motherboard schematics", drew a blank.

You'll need the schematics and the boardview file to know which power mosfet or controller IC may have been damaged and where it is located on the motherboard as most of the components on the board won't be designated.

@aadamomar

There are no schematics available online for the motherboard model, (or none that I can find anyway) only BIOS.bin files for the motherboard which would only help if you had a software problem in BIOS and would need to reflash it using the file.

Here's the results when searching for the fauchon-sky mb 14265 motherboard schematic.

Lots of people want it but nobody has it.

@jayeff

It's 14265-2, not just 14265

That one change brings up entire different results, but my internet protection is expired so I'm not checking any of the results yet, although there are several results that say schematics

@aadamomar you got a lot going on here and I agree with @jayeff on the schematic etc. Anyhow, you do want to go ahead and remove your memory modules and then retake some well focused large enough pictures of your motherboard. That way we can at least try and see where the battery circuit is and identify the component(s) that may have failed. In theory, a good circuit would be protected from reversed polarity through some Diodes, so I am no yet convinced that this was the issue. Let's see your motherboard.

@oldturkey03 added some more photos of the board to the post

if it wasn't the reversed polarity, what else could have fried it? I was grounded and I did not short circuit anything, so what else?
