There are two interface terminal caps on the left side of the camera body covering the connectors for the microphone, remote, USB and HDMI cables. These caps tend to tear off after the rubber has hardened over the years.
In theory it should be possible to replace these caps without disassembling parts of the camera body. However I was unable to get the rubber straps of the replacement parts into their openings. When pressure is applied, the straps bend instead of going in. My tools were either to big to fit into the hole or they would cut through the rubber.
This is why I had to remove the the I/F terminal cover.

To remove the remains of a rubber strap, pull it out as far as possible using tweezers, a needle or a small flat-tip srew driver. Then grab it from the side with small needle nose pliers. Twist the pliers to wrap the end of the strap around the pliers and pull it out.

You will need to pry off the grip rubber to get at the screws underneath. Use your fingernails or a spudger. Starting in the lower right corner worked best for me. You may stop once the gap around the interface terminal cover is visible (green line).

Cut along the gap through any residue of the adhesive film.

Unscrew the four #6 Torx screws that were hidden under the grip rubber.

Pry off the cover, starting at the cut-out near the strap holder.

Fully insert the replacements caps into the cover. Then put the cover back on the camera body while holding the caps in place and at the same time making sure that the straps go into the right openings in the body (red boxes).

- Screw the interface terminal cover to the camera body. Do not overtighten the screws.
- Replacing the grip rubber is left as an exercise to the reader. If you are lucky, the original adhesive film will still work.
