MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2012 Hard Drive Replacement

내 문제

My MacBook Pro was very slow. I constantly saw bouncing icons from the dock, the swirling beach ball, and long load times for applications and web pages. I thought about replacing my laptop after nearly four years of ownership with a new laptop or even a Mac Mini, but I read iFixit's article on upgrading my optical hard drive to a solid state one for a fraction of the cost.

나의 수리

The repair was successful. I ordered the solid state drive and the silicone sleeve from iFixit. When my package arrived, I put the new hard drive in the silicone sleeve and began cloning my MacBook Pro's hard drive. It was easy to download the SuperDuper! software and run it to clone the hard drive. I started the cloning the night before and when I woke up the next morning, the hard drive's contents were now on the solid state drive.

In the repair itself, I had no issues with the screws or cables in my MacBook Pro. The repair guide provided clear, easy-to-follow instructions on what tools to use and how to manipulate the hard drive so it could be removed safely. After I installed the new hard drive, re-assembling the MacBook Pro was easy and the laptop booted up without any problems. I was pleased to see the higher speeds in applications.

내 조언

Upgrading the hard drive was very easy. If a computer is running slowly, especially one with an optical hard drive, upgrading to a solid state drive will provide many benefits in performance and lifespan. Also, replacing the hard drive is less expensive than replacing the entire laptop.

With the right tools and knowledge, you can extend the usable life of your device and it will serve you longer than you expected it to.
