good cord but will not power up

Just slow down and study it close. They are fun but will drive you crazy. There is a screw somewhere.

There is a tag on the A/C system somewhere that states the refrigerant used. Please do not use anything that will interrupt the dynamics of the ozone layer. There are drop ins you can get at auto supply houses if you need to change out R 12. Update (03/24/2016): Also note the weight of the charge. Most drop in replacements are usually 3/4 of the R-12 charge. Add slow with a thermometer at air vent till temp of air is 20 degrees F. cooler then the ambient air. Do not let frost line to ice up back to compressor. This is after you have troubleshot low pressure switch. Then before you do any adding of refrigerant, ask yourself how did refrigerant get out of system. Check your gauges to see if suction side is pulling a vacuum. Is clutch on compressor engaged? Is there power to low pressure switch? Every time you add refrigerant there is oil mixed with it and after so many times the refrigerant leaks out but not the oil and you could be oil logged. I would replace thermocouple they are cheap and go out more then anything else. If you can test it for milavolts, do so if not, just replace. Next step is coil in gas valve.

Do you have 24 volts a/c to the contactor coil on a call for cooling? If you push in the contactor,( which is what test does) and it works then the question is why is the contactor not pulling in the when gets power )or if it gets power). You have 2 sides to a transformer, the primary which is line voltage in and the secondary which is, in this case, stepped down power out or your 24 volts out. Check the power out to t-stat on the R and common terminal of t-stat. Or check one of the contactor coil wires to ground. The coil is an electro-magnet so 24 volts makes it pull in the contactor and makes the connection across the contacts. I am willing to bet it is a low voltage issue. If it gets 24 volts then check continuty of coil.

Thank you. I removed 4 screws holding the display and looked under there. There was a major connector top center that had come unplugged. I reseated the connector and it powered up fine. I had it shipped to the Philippines as I retired here and brought it along for a back up. They really toss the boxes around and it must have come loose.
