I would check the battery to make sure it didn't die on you... If you never replaced the battery then it is probably very old and may have died on you... Batteries have a life span. CHeck the voltage first before you do anything. Next i would check the terminal connections inside the battery cage. This is an old camera and if you store the battery in the camera 24/7 the terminals can get pushed in and overtime will create a gap between the camera and battery terminals. With the door open push the battery inwards while attempting to turn the camera on. Do these steps first to eliminate possible battery or terminal issues and keep us posted.

더 읽어보기There are some used screens @ ebay. How about asking one of the local sellers what the steps are in replacement... . I can't imagine it being too complicated but i haven't worked on a J1 before. I have worked with aftermarket screens and they are not as good as OEM as far as brightness, but if you don't care about that there are some good prices on the aftermarket screens. The only thing i would suggest is try to get one with the backlight already attached (ask before buying). Here is a recent search on J1 LCD's on Ebay. You will want to get the ones that have 2 flexes (1 for the backlite and one for the LCD) You can always just remove the external screws (keeping note of your every step and where the screws go) and try to get the back off. Once the back is off you should have a better idea how accessible the LCD is. Please be careful because cameras still hold some residual power and can get a good jolt (stay away from the flash area). Beware of Static Discharge and ground yourself properly and try not to...
더 읽어보기Have you checked that the battery is fully charged or is still good? If you ruled out a battery issue then check that the terminals on the camera are clean (no build up on the terminals where the battery contacts). You can clean them with a cotton swab and some iso alcohol (wait for it to dry before re-inserting batteries). Also your manual may have some helpful hints Canon Manual 3350 One more note: Some canon cameras have a switch that opens and closes when the battery door opens. This tells the camera that the battery door is open and the unit will not turn on if the battery door is open (some models). This is something to consider. Sometimes when i run across canons that do not power on this door detecting switch is jammed.
더 읽어보기Sounds like either moisture damage, a loose or bad lcd or bad board. If you are up to it open up the unit and reseat the LCD back into the ziff clamp and see if that helps. There is a clamp that holds the LCD down and it may have come loose. Try to reseat the LCD, and while you have the LCD disengaged examine the flex cable for damage. Keep us posted. If you need a disassembly guide just let me know.
더 읽어보기Hi, The rice method is good but even better is to take it apart immediately and clean it directly using Isopropyl Alcohol. At this point you need to immediately take it apart and using a toothbrush with Isopropyl Alcohol remove the corrosion. The corrosion will continue to happen and it will damage even further. If the damage is just to the gold fingers you can always use a silver epoxy to fix it. I think there are some gopro repair videos on this site. Just take a look at the videos and see if its something you can do. All you need is time and patience. After cleaning the unit you may be able to determine where the continuity has been broken or the area(s) that are damaged.
더 읽어보기When you powered it on again did you wait a few hours? Just thinking outloud... maybe it has autoshut down parameters when it gets too hot to safeguard against damage. What is the speed rating on your SD card? Is your SD Card AFtermarket or genuine. At those temps the battery was probably drained completely. If indeed the board is fried then you will need to replace it. Your repairshop should be able to determine.
더 읽어보기Hi, The answer is no. The SD Card Assembly is physically attached to the Main Board. You would have to replace the Main Board. The cost of that repair is probably more than just buying a used SX40. Like you said, you swapped out other cards, checked for connectivity issues, used air so it does sound like it could be the board.

Hi…. the backlite cable might have come loose or damaged. I would disassembly the unit and re-insert the backlite cable to see if that does the trick.. Otherwise you would have to invest in a new Display ASSY or backlite. A used backlite or Display assy is not that expensive and easy to replace..
This tear down should give you access to the outer glass elements; however, it will not give you access to the 2 part enclosed glass elements.
