Yeah, I’d agree with the other posts… This could be easily repaired the correct way.
Chances are, if your power button doesn’t work, but the other keys do, it is a trackpad cable (which also powers the keyboard via the keyboard cable connected to the track pad) issue. Most likely there is corrosion on one of the ends (or all ends) of the cable/connectors.
A new $5 cable from the track pad to the logic board, along with a cleaning of 90+% rubbing alchohol on both connectors, will 95% of the time fix this issue.
I applaud for “fixing” this, but man… the poor macbook air didn’t deserve that…
Yes, you can swap out the 2013, 2014 and 2015 into the same housings, as they are all the same, other than the ICs (CPU, etc...) on the boards being the difference. All the connectors and removable parts are all the same, including the display. I know it's a little later of a reply than you'd like. This is the same with the 13" Air models as well, 2013 + are all the same
You should update these reparability "scores" over time.
HDD for this model is cheap and available by 3rd party for years now.
Also, who doesn't have at least 20 Pentalobe screwdrivers now, for iPhone and for these Macs...??
and there goes any water resistance... How would one even make their watch water resistant when replacing the screen? I guess it wouldn't be... even if I was told, *use this* glue/tape and it will be, I wouldn't trust it..
Does anyone know if the bracket that the camera module rests in, is removable?
I bought a new back housing, but I don't see anywhere if the bracket is removable. I don't even think it was removed by the ifixit team during the teardown...
I would venture to say that most of the "old" iPhones get handed-down or sold second-hand. I have had EVERY iPhone since 2007 (yes, at some point every model... repairing/trading etc...) and I have sold or handed down every single one... I would imagine there are many more brands filing the waste basket when they have almost no resale value after the year is up...
Wow.. you destroyed this thing! It would be great to have a guide that wouldn't need you to replace every component after opening it up! I'm looking into powder coating (once I remove the anodizing) this and my apple trackpad, so I would like to not destroy any part. I wonder what kind of glue can be used to re-bond the base to the frame...? Thank you for at least showing us what "not" to do when tearing it down.
