Hi Carl, sorry for the late answer... it was exactly that, I would put a disc in and it would churn for a while and then say "no disc" or it would show 99 on the display. Also, sometimes while playing a disc it would just kind of do the same sort of "skipping" repetitions, kind of like one used to get on a vinyl LP. I tried cleaning the disc (which sometimes helped) and using one of those laser head cleaners that you put in like a normal CD. In the end, I just decided to try the head replacement, as the other option was to throw the Onkyo away. In fact I tried to replace it with a new Yamaha, but we just didn't like the sound or the controls on the new unit, and the remote never worked correctly with the rest of the system (also Onkyo). Luckily, I hadn't thrown the Onkyo CD out ( I still had the idea of trying to fix it) and even though I couldn't find an iFixit guide for it, I tried anyway - and make my first guide as well! The CD has worked perfectly ever since.
The T630 phone is really old and this plug may be hard to remove as it may be decomposed like black putty. It really doesn't need to be taken off, you can get the protector for the camera off without taking out the plug when the rubber is like this.
you can also remove the keyboard connection (orange ribbon cable) in the same manner as for the screen cable. You can also just lift out the circuit board if you want to change the entire outer case.
there is a litttle lever on the connection on the circuit board that must be lifted up (a fingernail works fine) before pulling on the cable.
The screws are T7 torx
As with other steps, the early 2011 speakers look slightly different than the picture.
No, I think that it is just different on the early 2011 model, mine is the same. There are lots of small and larger differences between this guide and our model. There are only 6 screws,
on my early 2011 model it seems that on the left hand shield (with the Torx screws) the track pad connector is stuck to the underside of the connector. It lifted off the logic board when I tried to remove the shield and I am leaving it like that until I can manage to access it better - maybe when the logic board is out.
I can heartily recommend having a good magnifying glass at hand, it becomes much more obvious how all these tiny pieces fit together! At least for those of us without perfect vision...
Yes, as Katherine says, this does not seem to apply to the early 2011 model. The camera cable is instead attached to the logic board in the corner between the fan and the optical drive. You pull it out horiontally (and carefully, perhaps with help from the spudger tip at the "wings" on the end of the cable.
