Try turning the device off - then back on. That's generally the problem on other devices. It sounds like your backlight isn't working. A simple restart will hopefully fix that.

The original iPhone stopped getting updates at iOS 3.1.3 - I believe that is the only version that works at this point. Generally speaking, Apple only keeps one version available for each phone. I can't install iOS 7.0.3 on my iPhone 5s now that iOS 7.0.4 is available. You'll want to try and install that OS version. Let us know if that works for you.

I've actually tried nearly every "LCD Scratch Removal" technique under the sun with spare LCDs we've had lying around the shop. Simply put: Nothing works. The only real way to come back from a scratched LCD is to replace the LCD. I'd suggest replacing the scratched one with a new one... but keep it around. You may be surprised how many people with broken LCDs are willing to live with a scratched LCD at a discounted price.

My only concern would be drivers/software. Physical dimensions are one thing, getting it working is something completely different. If you have a software solution in place, then have at it. It should fit without any issues.

After digging through the manuals for this machine, it appears that the Fusion drive configuration uses both drive bays. The SSD goes in the lower bay and the standard hard drive goes in the upper bay (these bays appear reversed when you're in the machine). If you ordered the machine without a fusion drive, you still have an empty bay.

David - it sounds like you broke the latch on the flex cable connector for the LCD. The part that is actually attached to the logic board, so it may or may not be an easy fix. I don't think it's feasible to get a good connection for the LCD without keeping the latch in tact. Can it be done? Probably. Should it be done? Nope. I've been able to find a new latch for the iPad 2 previously, but haven't needed one yet for the iPad 3. It doesn't look like iFixit carries the part, neither do my normal suppliers. I had to browse through Chinese supplier sites until I found someone who carried it last time. I'd suggest you do the same. I looked around, but didn't see anything right away. If you can't find it, leave me a comment and I'll see if I can dig up a link.

If there isn't any visible damage to the iPhone itself, I'd suggest sending it back to Apple -- or if you have an Apple Store nearby that would be my first suggestion. From the photo, it's hard to tell if it's a scratch, chip or some debris floating around on the inside of the phone. iPhone 5 parts are difficult to find right now... it would also be a difficult part to replace. Try Apple and see what they can do for you.

If I'm understanding this correctly, you want to replace the stock logic board in your MacBook Pro 6,2 with the CTO option that adds 0.14GHz to the processor speed? If that's what you'd like to do, then yes, it's possible to swap the logic board out with the slightly faster model -- but you have to swap the whole board. The processor itself is not upgradeable. If you have extra boards lying around, have at it. But that upgrade, otherwise, would be extremely cost prohibitive. I wouldn't go through the trouble for an extra 0.14Ghz. It looks like the 2.66 and the 2.8 both have 512MB Nvidia 330M and 256MB of shared video memory -- so you wouldn't even see a bump in graphic performance. All in all, it's just not worth the effort, or a lot of money to get this done.

Does the optical drive work when you boot from an external drive? If the CD/DVD drive still works, then it could just be a cable issue. If it doesn't work then it's definitely the ATA controller. In that case, you'd have to replace the logic board. Logic boards aren't cheap and would probably cost you as much as the eBay purchase price. I've seen some repair centers that can fix component-level issues like that, but that's beyond my knowledge. Let me know if you have any other questions. :)

Mark - Leopard's system requirements are 867 MHz or higher. Is your processor 866 or 867? If it won't take Leopard, it could be due to a lack of minimum RAM. It requires 512MB of RAM at minimum. If that's not the answer, then you'd want to try to get a Tiger installation disc. Personally, that's the direction I'd go. Leopard on that machine may not be the best choice for performance. Granted, you'd be a little more "up to date" but the overall performance of the system would be mediocre at best. I have one of those guys running Tiger for fun and it's pretty zippy.
