Not sure if you can re-flash the firmware (FW) to current version or roll-back to a if you’ve previously downloaded & kept the files. On my S6500 I did 1 / 4 of the FW updates via USB, rest on Wi-Fi. It actually seemed more intense on USB. BUT, if you have finnicky wi-fi 1) wire the thing w ethernet 2) use a USB drive to update FW (dl from Sony site). I might also suggest to people that they could be having Router/QoS or Comcast connection/packet interference arbitrarily based on protocols / servers etc. Comcast is also heading up the charge to kill net neutrality. I would switch ISP’s if you can. Look it up.
>>> Sony Servers also MUST be working >for you<! All the apps run through SONY servers then connect to your subscription services. Spying/selling your “behavior data fragments”.
As far as the thing forgetting your passwords and stuff… yes, these things are total garbage and it’s funny sony put their name on.
Also I’d try a static LAN IP, if not too techy, for people losing connection, wired or wireless.
A BIG thank you to the iFixit Student Authors!:
Literally, BDP-S6500 would not power on, until I followed directions in the HDMI Cable section of “Device Not Powering On” above… menu was called something else, BUT… unplugging the HDMI cable from our splitter WORKED. Unit powered on immediately. I navigated to the equivalent option (called something else on this model, of course, thx Sony (eye roll))… it was off of course, because I had never turned it on… but it was behaving in a manner that the solution above solved it for now… I’m so glad their build-to fail attempts on failing on this hunk of junk!
