Astro A40 TR Plus Mixamp M80 Troubleshooting

The microphone’s audio has static or other noises as you speak.

The internals of the microphone may be damaged due to water contact/immersion or damaged due to physical impact. This damage will lead to unwanted noises that can be removed by replacing the microphone. Refer to Replacement Guide.

Check if the adapter connecting the headset to the mixamp is fully connected. If not, then debris might be blocking connection. Take a microfiber cloth to the connectors to clean off debris. If this does not solve the issue, refer to Replacement Guide.

The wires running through the headset might not be connected fully to the motherboard, leading to a weak connection that causes static. Check if visible wires feel loose or look frayed, crimped, exposed, or otherwise damaged to see if you might need to make adjustments or replace wires. If you see no damage, it might be internal. Try moving your speakers or headband to see if certain angles improve the sound you transmit. If you notice a difference, you will need to open up your speakers to look at the internal damage. Refer to Replacement Guide for help in doing so.

Player talks into microphone but nothing is picked up and friends can’t hear player.

Check to see if microphone is on mute. If it is on mute then unmute it by clicking the mute button on the amp or by looking through settings in-game or in the XBox to see if a setting there is muting voice chat. If it is not muted, check adapter to be sure that it is plugged in fully to both the headset and the mixamp and that it is free of debris. If still not picking up sound, the problem is the microphone and it may need to be replaced. Refer to Replacement Guide.

Internal wires connecting microphone may be damaged, making the connection unstable from the motherboard to the microphone. You will need to examine wires running through the headband to check for damage. If nothing is visible, you may want to open up the speakers to see if there is damage there. Refer to Replacement Guide for replacement of wires if you see damage.

The headphones are not transmitting sound and/or the mixamp has no volume.

Adapter connecting the mixamp to the headset is loose. Clean adapter and see if it makes a difference, if it doesn’t you might need to replace the adapter. Refer to Replacement Guide.

The mixamp might not be fully pushed against the controller, making it a loose connection. Check for debris on the mixamp to see if something is blocking it from connecting fully.

If Motherboard is damaged, you will not have audio. This is a last resort replacement if nothing else has worked for it. Refer to Replacement Guide.

You have trouble listening to sounds on your headset. Constant fuzziness in sound or occasional peaks in sound.

Adapter wires may appear frayed, crimped, or exposed. This damage could lead to distorted audio. Refer to Replacement Guide.

The controller might not be fully plugged in, making a weak connection between the two.

The controller might not have enough power for the mixamp to work, requiring it to be recharged. If re-charging does not work, refer to XBox One Controller Replacement Guide.

If the motherboard is damaged, audio will be distorted. This is a last resort replacement if nothing else has worked for it. Refer to Replacement Guide.

Headband feels tight, loose, or is not holding the speakers in the proper place.

If the headband feels too tight or too loose around your head at the band or your speakers are not lining up properly for you and you are not able to adjust to your preferences, you will want to examine the headband adjusters on the sides to look for damage that could be keeping it from adjusting. Something could be obstructing it or the adjusters might be damaged and need to be replaced. Refer to the Replacement Guide.

Amp and controller are not fitting together.

Remove amp from controller and look at where they connect to see if there is something blocking the connection. Take a microfiber cloth or compressed air to the connectors to clean it.

Can only hear sound from one speaker.

If only one headphone is working, the wiring is likely damaged exclusively on one side. Open up the speakers on the damaged side and see if there are frayed or exposed wires. Refer to Replacement Guide for help in replacing damaged wires.

If after opening up the speakers you see no visible damage, but you do see that the wires are disconnected from the motherboard, you will want to connect them. A simple soldering should do the trick. If that does not work, refer to the Replacement Guide.
