Computer Won’t Turn On or Boot Fully
Your computer will not power on or load the operating system correctly. Usually accompanied by warnings or error messages.
Faulty Random Access Memory (RAM)
The laptop frequently freezes, reboots, or displays the “Blue Screen of Death.” Other issues associated with a broken RAM are:
- Laptop randomly reboots
- Laptop freezes up
- Large files or downloads crash the computer

Dead Battery
Your laptop might not have any charge. In order to clarify, please consult the following common issue:
Short Battery Life
Computer dies/shuts down after a short period of time.
Defective Charge Cord
- Battery issues might also be linked to a defective or broken charge cord.
- In order to test to see if your charge cord is working, make sure it is plugged into a working outlet. Try turning your laptop off and plugging it in to be charged.
- If the device still does not charge, exchange the power cord for another to see if the device will charge with it instead.
- If the device still will not power on or hold a charge, then the broken battery will need to be replaced.
Faulty Battery
- If the laptop only powers on when plugged into power, no matter the length of charging time, then the battery is faulty.
- If the laptop battery only lasts a short period of time when disconnected from the charger, the battery may be faulty.
- Pay careful attention to make sure that all connections are made between the motherboard of the laptop and the battery.

Computer is Overheating
Computer feels hot to the touch, shuts down or does not boot due to overheating.
Dust Accumulation Preventing CPU Cooling
The easiest method to remove dust from the CPU fan and vent is to use compressed air canisters to clear the dust.

Computer Making Ticking or Grinding Sounds
Audible sounds coming from computer, user may experience slow loading speeds or be alerted that boot device not recognized.
Faulty Hard Drive (HDD)
Issues a user may experience with the hard drive can include:
- Ticking or grinding sounds coming from the laptop
- Slow loading speeds
- Alerts that boot device is not recognized

Loose Component within the Laptop
There may be a component that has not been properly secured inside the laptop.
- You may not be able to identify this loose component without potential rigorous disassembly of the laptop. To start the disassembly process, refer to this guide for removing the back cover.
No Internet Connection
Computer is not connecting to Wi-Fi networks.
Faulty Wi-Fi Card
If the laptop is not connecting to Wi-Fi networks, the Wi-Fi card is most likely at fault.
To replace the Wi-Fi card, refer to this guide.
User Is Not Authorized to Access the Network
If the user is trying to access a network that they are not authorized to (i.e. they do not have the proper credentials to log into the network) access to that network will not be granted.
- For confirmation that your laptop is connected to the network, locate the wifi settings within the laptop interface. There should also be a small icon indicating that your device is connected to the network.
