Camera Lens Malfunctions ¶
The lens will not retract into the camera.
The Lens Will Not Fully Retract ¶
The lens will not retract because something is interfering with the lens. Try to find anything that could be in the way of the lens retracting and remove it. If the lens continues to have issues, proceed with fixing the lens here.
Camera Powered Off With Lens Extended ¶
Try charging the camera. After the camera is charged, turn the camera on and try to retract the lens. If the lens continues to have issues, proceed with fixing the lens here.
There is a Grainy Sound When the Lens Tries to Contract ¶
Most likely sand, dust, dirt, or other particles entered into the area where the lens expands and contracts. Try to clean around the lens to get rid of any particles that may be stuck. If the lens continues to have issues, proceed with fixing the lens here.
Camera Shutter Malfunctions ¶
The shutter will not click fast or slow enough.
The Shutter is Stuck Open ¶
The shutter being open for too long creates pictures that are very bright and over exposed. Try restarting the camera. If this does not work, try cleaning around the shutter and lens to remove any particles that may be in the shutter's way.
The Shutter is Stuck Closed ¶
The shutter being closed will create a black picture. Try restarting the camera. If this does not work, try cleaning around the shutter and lens to remove any particles that may be in the shutter's way.
The Shutter Will Not Fully Open ¶
The shutter not fully opening creates a picture with blurry or black corners. Try restarting the camera. If this does not work, try cleaning around the shutter and lens to remove any particles that may be in the shutter's way.
The Shutter Button is Sticking ¶
When it is hard to press the shutter button to take a picture, the button may be stuck. Try cleaning the area around the button and clicking the button multiple times to unjam it. If it continues to stick, it may be necessary to replace the button using this guide.
Audio Malfunctions ¶
The microphone is not producing quality sound or has background noises.
There is a Humming Noise During the Video ¶
If your camera is producing a clicking or humming sound while taking video, check to see if image stabilization is turned on. If it is, turn it off and see if the video continues making the noise.
There is No Sound ¶
If sound is not being recorded with the camera, try plugging the camera into a computer and see if the computer picks up sound. If the sound is still not heard, try to restart the device and see if the problem continues.
Camera Battery Life Malfunctions ¶
The battery will not last as long as it should.
Charger Malfunctions ¶
Check to make sure the outlet you are using is working. If it is, check to make sure the charger is correctly plugged into the outlet. If the charger seems to be working, you may have a battery issue. If there is a problem with the charger, you will need to replace the charger.
Battery Malfunctions ¶
Check to make sure the battery is correctly plugged into the charger and that the charger is correctly plugged into the wall. Let the battery charge for a while, then place it back into the camera. If the battery is still not holding a charge, you will need to replace the battery.
LCD Screen Malfunctions ¶
The LCD screen will not turn on or work properly.
Low Battery ¶
Cameras often automatically power off the screen in order to save the battery life. Charge the camera battery, then check the LCD display screen to see if it will turn on. If problems persist, proceed with replacing the screen here.
Memory Card Missing or Inserted the Wrong Way ¶
Open the battery compartment on the bottom of the camera. Check to see if the memory card is inserted into its slot beside the battery. If it is not, find the memory card and insert it in the direction that illustration inside of the memory card slot shows. If problems persist, proceed with replacing the screen here.
