Overheating
Your HPG62 is excessively hot and begins to function at a slower rate than usual.
Dust has built up inside the fans and vents
Flip the laptop onto its backside and remove the back part of the device. Locate the fan and the vents and examine if there is dust covering the vents and fan. You may consider using a vacuum to clean out the filters and vents until dust is no longer present. Removing the dirt and dust will allow for more air to be filtered through the laptop, cooling it down.
Fan is loud and spinning often
Take the laptop to a cooler room and avoid placing any objects, such as pillows or blankets, underneath the device that will prevent air from entering into the vents. Remove any excessive gear, such as a hard drive from the laptop. The more gear that is attached to the device, the harder the fans will work, creating more heat. It is best to wait until the computer is at a cooler level before plugging in a hard drive or any other device that will force the laptop to work harder.
Fan is worn out
Many times users will discover that their fan is simply worn out after years of usage. If the laptop begins to run slower than usual, examine the fans to see if there is dust present. If there is no visible dust, it may be because the fan needs to be replaced with a newer model.
Battery fails to charge
The laptop will not charge, even when it is plugged into a power source.
Faulty power cord
If the power source is connected to the laptop, make sure it is plugged into an outlet and the light shows to be charging. If the cord is plugged into a power outlet and the laptop properly but still is not charging, consider purchasing a new power cord.
Faulty battery source
If the power source is plugged in and shows to be charging but the battery percentage is not increasing, try plugging the power cord into a different outlet. If it continues to not charge, turn the laptop off completely, take the battery out, hold down the power button for 15 seconds three times, then return the battery back to the device. If it continues to not charge, replace the battery with a new one.
Internal power jack shorting
If the power cord is plugged in to a power source and the laptop but not showing any charge increase, make sure it is completely plugged into the laptop. Make sure the prongs inside the jack of the power cord are not bent and are properly aligned with the charging port. Try to charge the laptop with another power cord. If it still fails to charge, make sure the prongs inside the charging port are not bent. Straighten them gently with a pair of pliers.
Black Screen
After turning the computer on, a black screen (black screen of death) is all that shows up with no matching LED error code.
Screen needs to be reset
Do a hard reset by removing the battery, power adaptor and pressing on the power button for 1 full minute. Take out the memory card(s) and put back only one in a different port. Reconnect the battery and power adaptor and try to start the computer again.
Laptop monitor is not being recognized in the Device Manger
If you go to “device manager” and under “monitor” it reads “generic PnP monitor”, the problem may be that this driver is not being recognized by the laptop. The driver for the generic PnP monitor can have issues over time, especially when rebooting. You need to download the driver for the specific brand monitor driver of the laptop and replace it in the device manager. Once you do this, when you go to device manager and click on monitor it should read “hp” instead of “generic PnP monitor”.
CD/DVD Drive Doesn’t Eject
The drive will not eject after pushing the button.
Computer Does Not Recognize the Drive
Shut down the laptop and press the F8 key at the same time to launch the Windows Recovery Console. Select disable driver signature enforcement. Hit enter then restart the laptop like normal.
CD/DVD Drive is faulty
Download ‘Take Ownership’ from the HP website. Open the Control Panel, then select Device Manager followed by DVD/CD-ROM drives. Right click and select uninstall. Once you have completed the prompt, click on the start menu and open the computer tab. Double click the Local Disc C, open Windows followed by the System32 folder. Right click drives and select the Take Ownership option. Open DriverStore then FileRepository. Click on the cdrom.inf folder then right click on cdrom.sys once the folder is open. Copy the cdrom.sys and paste it to the desktop. Once you have done this, click on the start menu again, open the computer tab, and double click the Local Disk C. Open the Windows folder, followed by the System32 folder. Open the Drivers folder, right click it, and select paste. Once you select paste, click on copy and replace and follow the prompts. After you have completed this, close the windows and restart the device.
Unresponsive Keyboard Buttons
Keyboard will randomly stop working.
Keys are stuck
Turn off computer and then restart it. Press the Esc key repeatedly until a setup menu opens. If the setup menu opens and is accessible via the arrow keys but then fails when Windows loads, the problem could be with the keyboard software.
Keyboard is old and unresponsive
If a setup menu does not open when pressing the Esc key, the keyboard should be serviced or replaced.
