If the device is not responsive when you press the power button on your Lenovo IdeaPad L340-15API laptop, review this troubleshooting page for potential solutions.
Malfunctioning Power Supply
The power adapter for the device may not deliver power to your device for a few different reasons:
- The outlet your device is plugged into may not be delivering enough/any power through it. Try an outlet that you know to be functional.
- Make sure that the charger is free of damage and wear. Ensure cables are free of tears or frays, pins are straight, and metal connections are free of rust/corrosion.
Internal Battery Cable is Disconnected
Your laptop might not be turning on due to an internal battery cable being disconnected:
- Plug your device’s charging cord into your device. If the device doesn't start charging, check the side of your device that has the charging port. There should be a small led light that turns on when your device is plugged in.
- If the light does not turn on when you plug in your device, you could have a wire that is disconnected. If this is the case, move down to the “Dead Battery” section below for instructions.
Dead Battery
A dead battery means that the battery has lost the ability to hold a charge, which means the laptop needs to be plugged in at all times. This is most likely due to the natural degradation process.
- To first test the conditions of the battery, simply running a battery health report should help give an idea of what's happening.
- To determine whether the laptop has a dead battery, charge the laptop for a couple of hours and monitor the on-screen battery level.
- If after the charging period the charging cable is removed and the laptop immediately shuts down, the battery is likely at fault and needs replacement.
- Follow this guide for instructions on how to replace the battery.
Screen Cable is Disconnected
It may seem like your laptop is not powering on but it's really the screen that is not working due to a disconnected internal cable:
- The screen of your laptop may not be turning on due to an internal video cable being disconnected:
- Try checking the inside of the laptop monitor and/or the motherboard for the video cable that should be connecting the two together in order for the display to work.
- If there is a loose or broken connection between the monitor and the motherboard via the video cable, try reconnecting it if it is not broken. If it is broken, you will need to replace the cable with a new one.
Motherboard Failure
The laptop may not power on due to an issue with the motherboard. If the motherboard fails, you will not be able to power on your device. There is not currently a motherboard replacement guide on the site, but you can refer to the hardware maintenance manual for information on replacing the main system board.
