jasonrussell, that could be caused by two things. One would be a bad LCD and the other a bad backlight fuse. Try to angle your LCD against some light and see if you can make out some shadows. Usually I use a darkroon and a flashlight angled against the LCD to determine a bad backlight. Anyhow, attached is a picture about the backlight fuse. It is annotated in Russian :-) and the "F" shows the fuse. Use a multimeter to check for continuity.
