My camera will not turn on after batteries went dead,.. recharged and put back in.. still nothing. the Lens was out when it stopped working,. HELP

My camera will not stay on. It runs the battery down very, very quickly. It's not the batteries. I purchased a new set of rechargable batteries and also tried new regular alkaline batteries. I can take one or two pictures if I don't use the flash. Could it have something to do with the motor that runs the lense?
