It depends on how dark it is. Normally you only have to press the F7 key to dim the screen and F8 to brighten the screen. If the image is barely visible then your problem is that the backlight or the inverter board is dead. If this is your case and you need help with the replacement please let me know.

The monitor is not hard to take apart and fix. If you are wondering which part is bad then the best thing to do is to get a multimeter and once the screen frame has been taken off, Contact the red lead to the pink or blue wire and the black lead to the white wire. Make sure the setting on the mutimeter is on 20V and you should see a reading of ~9-12V. A decent video on the replacement can be found [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtoY1J91BEw&feature=player_embedded#!|here], but the music is annoying.*

If your inverter board is getting the proper voltage then the problem is your screen. The steps on replacing the screen are listed below. Since you already have the screen frame off, you just need to order a replacement monitor and screw the new one in.
+
1. Remove the screws holding the screen cover to the hinges at the bottom of the monitor.
+
2. Disconnect the LCD cable by pulling up the clear tape that is holding the cable to the board and then pulling the cable out.
+
3. Remove the 2-4 screws that hold the LCD screen in place on the hinges.
+
4. Insert the new LCD screen and reverse the steps you just took.

The whole process is pretty simple, and the worst part is dishing out the money for the new part. As far as finding the parts, the best place is probably eBay, and a vendor that I have been very happy with would be Laptop Aid, but you should be able to determine whom you wish to purchase through. If you have trouble finding the links for the parts I will provide one for each part to help start you on your quest.
