Why is my touch screen not working?

My tablet turns on and it brings me to the lock screen. But the problem is that the touch screen isn't working. Everything else seems to work. The two volume buttons and the power button work. The screen can turn on and rotate. But the touch screen is the only thing not working. Is there some way to fix this? Thanks!
