I have similar experience: it started a few months ago on my Tab A6 (a.k.a 10.1 2016) when a leather cover was mounted with intermittent display black-outs. I removed the cover and the problem went away. For a few months.

Now the screen is black and there's nothing I can do to get it working. The tablet is alive ... it makes healthy sound when I plug the charger. It also behaves right when plugged to a computer with USB cable.

As it still under warranty, it's going back for a repair.
