the video chips on the mid to late 2007 and early 2008 models had major issues which Nvidia has admitted to. Apple will replace it under warranty regardless of warranty status.

I would take the machine to the apple store and ask them to vaccum the inside and clean the vents. What happens is that the vents get clogged and the combo of that and the incorrect soder on the chips eventually leads to the chip failing. I see like 10 a week with this issue. On my MBP I vaccum the vents every few months

keep in mind an "anti-static" enviornment and vaccum is what you need. I wouldn't open it and use a regular vaccum
