I had the same popping noise only when I put in the glass tray. I did clean it with dishwahser solution but still the same afterwards.

Only when I cleaned it with antistatic spray (same used for cleaning computer screens) did the popping sound stop.

Hope this helps,  it saved me a trip to the technicians.
