I have read the posts here and clearly there are 2 main solutions to why this question is asked. Most of the people apparently didn’t realize that the cord needs to be removed from it’s latch in order to remove the wand since they are connected. The problem I had was much more difficult to solve though I did and brought pictures to share for anyone else who hasn’t been able to resolve their issue.

In my case I suspected the release latch mechanism on the inside was broken and when I took it apart I found that I was correct. Use the photos to determine if this is the same model as yours.

First, I removed all the screws that attached the back plate. Some screw in from the back, a couple from the front, and 2 from the bottom. This will remove the back which will remain connected by a few wires while still granting you sufficient access to the problem area. Press your release latch and you can see the offending plunger with a broken plastic pad preventing it from releasing the wand. There is a spring holding the latch in place. Remove or disable this spring to release the wand.

Keep in mind that disabling the wand release will render your vacuum unable to properly operate in upright position without a little rigging such as using a stretchy band to connect the cord wind up location together. So the solution will be exactly the problem those first group of people had which prevented them from releasing the wand.

I hope this solution helps.
