computer not logging on at all
Screen does not come up with log in but comes up with a folder with a ? in it

What the folder with flashing ? means is your computer can't find the startup disk. Usually this indicates a bad drive. To try to fix this, hold down option while booting, and see if you can boot from your drive. If you cannot, then your drive is fried. If your data is not backed up then you can recover some of it with tools such as Data Rescue. It's a good tool well worth the $99.
If you can in fact boot to your drive, immediately backup all your data before it disappears.

If you've dropped or bumped your laptop you may have disconnected the HD. Use the guide to check that the HD is firmly seated in it's slot.
