How do I pick the right processor upgrade?

Hi,

I have a Dell Zino HD, with the following features.

  • Processor: AMD Athlon 2850e Processor (512K, L2, 1.8GHz)
  • Video Card: 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330

I am considering upgrading the processor, but I don’t know how to identify compatible processors. My main concern is that a processor would overheat or not be compatible with the Zino bios. However I don’t know how to pick the right processor. Ideally, I would like a dual core, for under $80.

Can anyone help me with this?

Is there anything else I should think about?

Drew

Here is the information about your current processor:

*Socket AM2 AMD Athlon 2850e 1800MHz 22W G2 ADJ2850IAA4DP

There are some things you might need to consider before making the purchase, and not only the processor type. We see that this single core cpu consumes 22 watts of juice. That means that you could have a limitation/problem when it comes to the power source after upgrading. There are some good and cheap dual core AM2 processors; but this upgrade could cause you a problem because of the dual core wattage which range from ~50 to ~125 and maybe more after load. Maybe it is possible to upgrade, but I would suggest you pay close attention to your power supply as well.

I know this is a little old, but here are the supported CPU's for the Zino HD 400:

AMD's Athlon 64 2650e/2850e or Athlon 64 X2 3250e/6850e

The 3250e and 6850e are dual core and give a better experience than the single core 2650e/2850e

Another addition you may want to consider is the Broadcom Crystal HD BCM70015 which will improve HD support.

Also using Windows Media Player Classic helps with playing blue-ray files
