I have a mighty mouse and the scroll ball only works in the right to left direction. In older mechanical mice, every so often you needed to take the ball out and clean the wheels that the ball touched on the inside. How can I safely take the cover off the mighty mouse and check to see if the inside needs cleaning?

First, try a lint-free cloth with a little isopropyl alcohol or similar on it and rub the ball with it in all directions for a while. Works nearly every time. When my mouse acts up i'm sometimes a bit sloppy and just rub it over my trousers which works just as well.

Eventually even the trouser trick wont work. Follow these images to see what you need to do. Its not that hard, but you need a little glue when you are putting it back together.
