I had this problem and went thru all the answers online... then I went into control panel, sounds... and found the sound was turned off for Chrome... turned it back on and solved the problem... I think an update turned it off because it had been working properly before I updated on Windows 8

thanks vergo . it worked for me

for driver and support visit asus https://goo.gl/a5YmEg and see if that helps you to fix the sound

thinks it was very helpful . i almost fixed the sound issue but its little low as it was before i think i have to some adjustment in sound settings

Are you talking about Chrome settings or Control Panel? My Control Panel thinks the sound is fine, but I hear nothing. I find no sound settings in Chrome. Volume is up, everything on. Hear nothing. I think Asus is a problem...

If sound has stopped working there are few tips you can try.

At first, Make sure that Audio Devices are enabled on your Windows 8 PC. You will have to go through volume icon beside notification area on taskbar and right click on the icon. Further Click on Playback Devices and enable through properties menu box.

If issue is fixed then it is OK, otherwise Update Audio Device Drivers.

If you have set auto install for Windows update on your windows 8 PC the drivers will be updated automatically. After setting never check for updates your Windows couldn't install the updates coming from Microsoft. In this situation go to Device manager and update the Device driver manually thanks

Just uninstall your audio driver and install it again.

What about windows 10???

It's a very similar procedure.

Kevin Yang, check in your device manager and verify the status of your audio device. Reinstall your driver and see what you get then. Also, attach some external speakers and see if you still have sound.

How do i do that?

SOLVED - I Fixed the problem, Go to Upper-Right Corner where you see those 3-Little-Dots, Click and Scroll down to "MORE TOOLS", Then Click EXTENSIONS section in pop-up next to it. Remove any "Audio Boosters" that you personally added AFTER you purchased it. Click on the Clock on the Lower-Right Hand Corner and LOWER your Sound, Then RELOAD Computer by Turning off/on your computer and the Sound will come back to Normal - Yay! :) :) :)

If you do not hear sound coming from the laptop, first check if the sound is muted or set to low on the laptop and application. If this is not the case, your speakers may be blown out. Check the troubleshooting page for more details.

Assuming that you tried putting on Headphones or External Speaker and still doesn't work, Try going to Windows Services then search for Windows Audio, Right Click it then Select "Restart", Otherwise go to Speaker Properties then Choose Enhancments then Tick Disable all Enhancments. Finally Try Disabling your Sound Driver through Device Manager then Enable it..

After a Realtek MEDIA driver windows update no sound anymore on my Asus K53SV (Windows 7 - 64) - dreaded red cross where the speaker icon should be. 3 days insanely looking for a solution, reinstalling Realtek drivers, tried all the official Asus versions, also versions directly downloaded from Realtek.

Hotkeys neither working anymore, reinstalled ATK drivers package, but didn't work either (solved by letting run "C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\ATK Package\ATK Hotkey\HControl.exe" under XP compatibility mode).

The REAL SOLUTION to the problem finally found here:

https://windowsreport.com/audio-device-d...

The solution is for Windows 10, but the problem was exactly the same for my Windows 7 installation: not enough rights in the registry on

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\MMDevices\Audio\Render

Gave "User" full control rights, reboot and problem solved!

I had the same problems. I did restart of the laptop not the shutdown. it worked for me.

It can be something to do with your sound drivers or the sound controllers.

Why don't you try uninstalling those drivers and reinstalling and also check the audio settings and play with the devices selected in there.

Here’re 5 fixes that have helped other users resolve the ASUS laptop sound not working in Windows 10, 8.1, and 7 issues. Just work your way down the list until the problem is resolved.

Troubleshoot hardware issues

Before we make any changes, we might have to troubleshoot hardware issues. To do so:

  • Make sure to check your speaker and headphone connections for loose cables or the wrong jack.
  • Try connecting your speaker or headphone device to a different port and see if this fixes the problem.

Make sure the volume is audible

Sometimes you can’t hear sound from your speakers simply because the volume is muted or set too low.

  • Click the sound icon on the lower-right of your screen, then move the volume slider all the way to at least halfway up.
  • Test if you can hear any sound from your ASUS laptop.

Set default audio devices

Ideally, when a new audio device is inserted, Windows will automatically set it as the default audio playback device. But that’s not always the case and sometimes we’ll have to set default devices manually.

  • Right-click on the sound icon on the lower-right of your computer screen, then click Sounds.
  • In the Playback tab, click on the audio device you wish to play, then click Set Default. Click OK. If the audio device you’re to play doesn’t show up in the device list and right-click on the empty space and tick Show Disabled Devices. Then right-click on the device once it appears and clicks Enable before you do step 2).
  • Check to see if your ASUS no sound problem has been fixed.

Disable audio enhancements

Audio enhancements, as the name suggests, are features that allow for the highest sound fidelity from your hardware. But depending on your configuration, they can also interfere with your system and trigger sound problems. So we should disable audio enhancements to see if it fixes the no sound on the laptop problem.

  • Right-click on the sound icon on the lower-right of your computer screen, then click Sounds.
  • In the Playback tab, right-click on your default audio device and click Properties.
  • Click the Enhancements tab, then tick the box for Disable all enhancements and click OK.
  • Test your audio device and see if no sound issue is resolved.

Update your audio driver

This problem may occur if you are using the wrong audio 'driver or it’s out of date. So you should update your audio 'driver to see if it fixes your problem. If you don’t have the time, patience, or skills to update the driver manually, you can do it automatically from the Asus driver support page.
