Thank u , this solution worked, I wonder if now Keurig will admit there is a potential issue and this is experienced by more than a "few"?

Kristy, corporations no longer admit any faults. It takes a class action law suit. Integrity is now a term from a bygone era.

Thank you! Obviously this is a real problem that many are experiencing. Amazing how much we pay for these machines and how quickly they fail with no help from "customer service". Thank you again for posting this quick fix.

If you open the lid and use flashlight! There are two tabs that the metal pin rubs against when opening and closing. They are flimsy plastic pieces. One of mine is missing and the other is bent over doing nothing. This leaves a ledge for the pin to hit against. Fix would be to add plastic where they are missing with super glue. I don't see where you would have to remove the mechanisms. When you do the finger inside trick you lift the mechanism so the pin clears those missing parts that have broken off!!! I've decided to add plastic where the pieces broke off! Good luck with this!!!

My 13 year old son and I fixed our 2.0 with two washers and some adhesive. Its a simple fix that you can easily do (even if you dont want to unscrew anything, but taking the cover off makes it easier. I really hope this video helps someone out there!! - Tim

I also have a Keurig 2.0 Coffee Maker that has the same exact problem. Unfortunately, Keurig Customer Support claims they have not had any other complaints pertaining to this issue. After researching online, and tinkering with my existing Keurig, I was able to find 2 easy solutions without having to take apart or troubleshoot the Keurig. Simply place a K-cup into the Keurig; when you're about to close the lid either (1) Hold both sides of black frame piece (right above where K-cup sits) and simply pull the handle down or (2) There is a hole in the same black frame that my finger fits in perfectly. (located to the left of the puncturing needle) simply put a finger in the hole and pull towards you to be able to pull down the handle without an issue.

I tried solution 2, and it was easy. Closed like it never had a problem in the first place ! Nice to see Keurig stand behind their products ....Thanks Tyler!

Many thanks, Tyler!

I was messing around with my Keurig for a couple of hours this morning trying to get the lid to close. I tried numerous tips until I came across your solution. It worked for me, and I am so happy to have my coffee back. I am grateful you took the time to post this.

First thing this morning I tried to make a cup of coffee. I lifted the lid and it got stuck. I fiddled with it, tried several things. Nothing worked. I couldn't continue because I had to shower and get ready for work. Tonight, I tried your suggestion. On the first try, IT WORKED! You made my night! Thank you!

I figured after spending about 10 minutes and discovering what the problem was with my broken Keurig that I would put a YouTube video on. Found this site first and see that it is a common problem. The two tabs others have spoken about our two little three eighths by 3/8 tabs that sit on each side of the pot and they're about a sixteenth of an inch thick and are obviously designed to wear out and snap off. Our pot has never been abused and everybody his has been very careful with it. This is just normal wear and tear and it is disgusting that these types of products continue to be put on the market. The whole point of a Keurig is convenience, you shouldn't have to fiddle around with the sharp area in order to close it.

Yay this works!!!

Do you have a video on this?

this doesn't work for my model.

I have the Keurig slim k. Fairly new. I lifted the silver handle as usual to open lid. Lid was stuck, would not open. I tried wiggling it a bit. Nothing. The handle ended up lifting without the lid. So then I was finally able to pry lid open. But now the silver handle stayed detached from the lid. And when I close the lid, it stay gapped open. Apparently more people gave this trouble than Keurig would like to believe. I threw my box and lost the receipt. It's sad because it was expensive but I don't know what to do?

There is a ring that goes around the needle. Slight forward pressure on that piece while closing releases the latch.

Amazing! I'm having the same problem (a year and a half after you originally posted this) and squeezing the sides of the frame while closing fixed mine, as well. Thank you! :-D

So, I figured out my keurig lid issue. My hubby opened it too hard & too far back. I took it apart after he left for work & those 2 long plastic pieces that are on each side of where the k-cup goes MUST be inside those tracks. If u open it too hard they will pop out & prevent the lid from opening any further & from shutting.

The plastic pieces have lips on the bottom so just pop those back in the tracks & ur good to go!!

I have designed and had made a small plastic piece to attach under the hood of the Keurig.

This plastic piece solves the dilemma permanently.

I have these for sale for $10.00 if anyone is interested.

Installation is a snap, anyone can do it in well under 1 minute.

Let me know if you’re interested.

The lid is composed of two articulating pieces. The outer lid with the latching handle and an inner lid that closes on the Kcup. There are 2 small tabs that are designed to guide the inner lid down onto the cup that are broken off on mine. With those tabs missing the inner goes into a notch that locks the two lids in the open position. Replacing the part with the broken tabs would require more time and effort than it is worth. Besides that you would have to get the part from Keurig, if they would sell it to you. If you lift the lid to its highest, you see the second internal lid and you can use your fingers to guide it down past the notch that locks it and everything works normally.

This worked perfect!!! I'm not sure if I wasn't understanding the original posted solution properly, but this was the best explanation of the solution to my specific issue with the lid being stuck. I just wish I could see the part that is broken on it. I have family in 3D printing and machine work that make small parts. Anywho, THANK YOU!!

Thanks hkross your directions worked perfectly. What a shame that a Keurig which cost over $100 and is only a year old should break so easily!

when the lid is up and cant go down. reach inside right with a finger. you will feel a round piece of plastic. press down on this and the lid easily goes down! Without taking it apart I don't know what this piece of plastic does but it works every time!

This worked for me as well, and have been doing it for I'd say the last six months. Unfortunately, now my K 2.0 is not accepting any non-carafe Kcups, not even ones that are legitimate, Green Mountain Keurig ones! I feel like it has something to do with alignment... or somehow & basically, how I've had to close it (using this solution). Has anyone else had this issue? Or any ideas on what I've done, now?!?

Thank you again... have sincerely appreciated how well this original fix has worked!

Keep trying, coax it either to the left or right as you are lowering it with your finger still in the release ring

Lift the main lid slightly while pressing down on the inner lid.

Our Keurig 2 has the exact problem, can’t close it, and the company won’t replace it.

Shame on you Keorig.

This solution fixed our issue! We use it everyday. Kuerig works fine, just needs help closing sometimes and this method works perfectly. The person that figured it out is a genius!

Just don’t open the lid all the way after the brewing, simple open it slowly and don’t open it all the way! Just make sure your K-cup will fit.

I'm sorry, this is not an effective reply. What happens when someone accidentally knocks it back into the open position?

I appreciated the fix as if you don't open the lid completely until it locks, you don't have to manually correct it each time!

Got my Keurig open and there was a rubber grommet that came off the upper needle. I think this keeps the lid from going down too far.

Just started having this issue; yes you can guide the puncture needle forward a bit but he ‘catch’ is a metal part / tube on left that has to protude through the 2 part assembly where the cup sits. But the problem 0 is that raising the handle too high, now extends too far, do it slowly and you’ll hear a click. It appears this extra travel puts the alignment off requiring these workarounds. If I could figure out what wore off - if you do pics please, but I plan to call them anyway.

Found a very small tab like 3/8" square, black, the broke off, I suspect prevented handle from coming down too far, as otherwise I now have to use the left side "finger hole" to pull it down; actually there's a bar / post that *has* to travel thru this very hole to similar hole in housing holding your k-cup.

Hey Carlos, you are correct. When this problem happened to me, I kept hearing something small falling inside while rotating the Keurig to get the best look inside, so just kept at it till it stopped ended up being really similar to what you described I just gotta look for those little things to confirm your theory

Ordered the duo + plus; for our needs, offers widest pour selection and carafe.; 20% off!

I solved this problem with my Keurig bye breaking the small plastic tray on both sides and removing it. You have to do this a bit past the point where the Chrome bar is. In doing this the lid now goes up and down no problem although it is not quite as smooth however I lost a bit of functionality in that the lid no longer stays up for you when you place the pod inside the machine in other words you have to hold it up put the pot in and then put it back down. If you try this make sure that you unplug the Keurig first for electrical safety and be very careful not to get hurt by the sharp needles.
