5C bad drop no touch/copy screens do not work

Hello,

Apologies if this has been answered before but I couldn't find anything that quite matched my problem.

Got in a 5C to recover the data after a bad drop, touchscreen didn't function and there were very faint white vertical lines through the LCD. I tried a new screen, and was presented with a dark blue image (as if not connected correctly). I reseated etc and tried two more screens all of which had the same problem. These screens work on other phones. The original screen still has the same issue if plugged back in. Taking a known good genuine screen from another 5C presents the same problem as the original screen. To summarise : copy screens don't work and genuine screens have no touch on this phone.

I've tried disconnecting the battery and all the obvious solutions. I peeled off the black tape and have examined every component around the connectors and everything appears to be okay. Phone is not water/liquid damaged in any way.

Thanks in advance,

Sam

Is the phone detected in normal mode or DFU/recovery mode by iTunes when the copy screens are connected?

If you are doing data recovery, I would forget about the copy screens since you have image on the original screens. Troubleshoot the touch lines on the logic board. To get you started, the power for the touch system comes from a chip called U3 on the 5c---it is the display/touch power ic. Look for lines that are SAGE (touch) 5v7 and -5v7. Troubleshoot from there.

good luck---your question was very clear, I am happy to help.

I've looked up the schematic now - should I test for continuity between the connector and each of the components? How do I test the U3 touch IC?

Check voltages in and out of u3

This probably seems like a stupid question, but how would I test for a voltage using a multimeter as it is a BGA chip?

Thanks for the reply!!

Check the digitizer connector carefully. It has some issues due to the design that can cause the connector pins to not line up.Be mindful of the digitizer connector since it also has a tendency of bending the pins since it does not have any end caps.

As you can see the connector lacks metal ends and this is what makes it a weak connector. It is easily possible to damage the connector by mis-aligning the digitizer connector

Re-inspected through the microscope, there is no noticeable damage to the connector. Both ends look okay. The microscope I'm using does not have a digital camera attached so I can't take a photo to show you. I've checked the LCD connector while I'm at it again, and that too looks like it should.

Any other suggestions?
