my transmission wont shift out of park its a 1999 chevy pickup

could be the steering column lock . try wiggling the steering wheel around while moving the gear shift . or it could be the brake safety switch. there's a switch on the brake peddle that activates the brake lights it also releases the shift lock. when the brake lights dont work the lock sometimes wont however it could also be the actuator for the safety lock on the column Hope this helps

What if you are trying to shift it out of park at the transmission and it still wont shift into gear?
