The screen goes blank while in use
I was getting horizontal lines across the screen, now the screen is white. Seems to be caused by the lid position. I have rebooted it several times.

Lid position?
Are you saying that depending on what angle the screen is at it can display this behaviour?
If this is the case you may have a loose wire or connection, or even a wire that is wearing.
To remedy this you will need to disassemble the screen and have a look, handily ifixit has a guide for that.
