I repaired an iPhone 6s screen, the display no longer turns on at all, but the phone still vibrates and is recognized by iTunes. The home button still works because I am able to turn it off without actually using slide to unlock, I can force restart/shutdown it.

You probably blew the backlight circuit on the logic board when you replaced the screen. The iPhone 6S is very prone to this.
Did you disconnect the battery prior to removing the display connectors?
Shine a bright flashlight on the screen; if you can see a dim image, then you have a backlight issue. This requires a micro-soldering repair and is not DIY.
