Sometimes the connections build up a film which interferes with the batteries connections.
Take a cotton swab (Q-Tip) dipped in White Vinegar and wipe down the battery contacts make sure they are clean of any junk. You may need to polish the ends as well use a pencil eraser to rub the tips and pads so they are shiny. Then install a fresh set of batteries. That should do it!
