The part of the charger that goes into the laptop bent and broke off due to my being clumsy and allowing the laptop to fall down while it was still plugged in. How do I fix it or do I need to just pay for a new charger?

Go to near by computer repair store , may be you find pin of old non working charger, and replace it, or you have to get whole new charger
