iPhone SE Gray Screen

Hello, I have problem with my IPhone SE. Yesterday when i was listening music all of the sudden screen turned gray and now its unresponsive. I can connect it to pc . When i try to restore it than it wont let me and i will get error that iphone could not be restored or something like that. I have tryed to hard reset etc but doesn’t work.

Update (09/29/2018)

I’m getting this error when im trying to restore. Nothing is wrong with the screen, it turns on and can see apple logo when it tries to restore.

Which error message did you get? That can be an important clue in determining what’s wrong.

There are two possibilities here:

  1. You have a screen problem.
  2. You have a logic board issue.

The proper course of action is to try a replacement screen first to see if that solves the problem. This requires that you buy parts and it may not solve your problem. If the problem is on the logic board, this will require a micro-soldering repair and is not DIY.

If you buy the parts from iFixit and you then determine it is not the screen that is the problem you can return the screen quick and easy with no questions asked. iFixit stands behind their products and offers lifetime warranties for everything besides consumables (adhesive, batteries).

@ajcooke01 You have to be careful with this comment. You've said it several times already. iFixit is not in the business of "lending" parts for troubleshooting. There is a huge cost to shipping and accepting returns because someone simply wants to troubleshoot with good quality parts. iFixit will warranty that the parts work, not that they solve you're problem. While I'm sure that they occasionally accept returns of working parts, I doubt it's a regular thing.

I'd like to see what someone at iFixit (@blakeklein) has to say just to set the record straight.

@refectio Not saying there would be any lending of parts here. I am just saying that iFixit stands behind their parts and has a good return policy if for some reason you need it. I have done what I said in my prior comment multiple times and they have taken it back and given me a refund. Just speaking from experience.

Error 9 is a catchall error code that could point to many things. However, given that ou have other issues as well, I would suspect it is a board-level problem.

You may have replaced your phone by now but I haven’t. My 6SE goes gray. Apple won’t admit it but it really seems to be linked to the accelerometer. It helps to keep it face down and still. A moving car can gray it out. After shooting (photo) a job I will drive away and check my phone and grrrr a gray unresponsive screen. I will pull over, put the phone face down and wait. Sometimes 1 minute, sometimes 5 minutes. Eventually I can pick the phone up and it will be live again. I can log in, begin GPS and finally drive home.
