Horizontally Split Display Problem

My wife's Medion MD96420 laptop is displaying a horizontally duplicated screen (split screen appearance). It will only start in safe mode & will not connect to the net. The problem was intemittent and is now persistent. Any ideas welcome.

I had a similar problem with my Medion MD96420 which was 3 months out of warranty. However, with a little research and talk around the office it appears that there is a problem with the video card whereby over time the heat weakens some of the solder joints and affects the video card performance. I contacted Medion support, provided proof of purchase and sent the laptop to them. After about 3 weeks it arrived back in perfect working order. That was just on 12 months ago and it has not missed a beat since. Before it was repaired I found that if I left it off for about 12 hours, when I restarted it would be ok for quite a while until it heated up and did the split screen thin again.

Thank you Stephen. The computer is about a year out of warranty but I consider the fault a manufacturing fault after the information you have provided. I'll send the thing to the manufacturer and see what they will do for me for how much and post the result.
