Mic and Remote hardly working

Whenever I go outside, my earbuds crackle and pop in my ears and I never think much of it until today. I tried to use Siri and it showed that it couldn’t hear me talking at all, as in the mic was inactive. This is an issue as they are brand new headphones that I use often because my in-phone mic is not working as it should. I tried cleaning out the headphone jack, but nothing seems to be working. What can I do?
