Question about the keyboard of 2011 version.

Hello,

I just got the new MBP 2011 2 weeks ago because my old one just couldn't handle my 3D skills anymore. Today I've been working the whole day and grabbed a beer but I accidentally tiped it over end catched it back half way in the air but I stil spilled a litle bit over the keyboard... I immediately turned off the power and flipped it over to let it drain out of my macbook.

I got behind another computer and searched the internet for help. All I could find is that I should leave it off for at least a few days and that I'm probably screwed...

When I kept looking I found this post of Ifixit: MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Early 2011 Teardown

When I looked at it I saw that there's at least some kind of rubbery layer behind the keyboard. I suppose this would prevent liquid from getting to the hardware at least a bit wouldn't it?

I think I didn't spill that much so how big would the change bee that I have broken it? I know this question probably has been asked many times before but I just need to ask it; I'm kinda shocked right now...

I hope someone can give me some information about this.

If you turned it off and removed the battery the second that you spilled the beer, your laptop should be safe. Leave it off to dry for at least 1 week, and after 1 week, consider opening it up, and cleaning anything that got covered with rubbing alcohol. If you use rubbing alcohol to clean it, then you should let it dry for another day or two afterward.

that is a keyboard backlit paper which prevents the everything keep out of the logic-board. so you dissemble the macbook to check spillage quantity. if you logic-board is fine then remove the black paper to clean the keyboard. under the black paper you see a transparent sheet of plastic . take out that also and clean it with the water ( black paper or sheet transparent ). i also spilled a wine on my macbook pro . i removed the everything from the top case and washed the keyboard with under becoz my keyboard became sticky very hard to press. after washing now all keys are working. before doing this remove all the parts from the top case. hope you do this well. best of luck .

Hello,

Thanks for the reply's! I had i layed down until a couple of minutes ago. I just had to try putting it on because I had a couple of hours of work I really needed for today's deadline. When I pressed the on btn it apeared that I only had pushed it into sleep... So I gues it didn't reach my motherboad then...

Anyway only thing now is that my r and 4 keys arren't working anymore... Any chance I can fix that easely without opening my macbook? I really don't want to do that. And otherwise there's just no other option then to bring it to the apple store... I've got it insured anyway but I want to prevent that I have to use that after just 2 weeks...
