It most likely is a backlight problem, which if it is in the screen means that the screen will have to be replaced as it cannot be repaired.

It is a shame that you cannot connect the laptop to an external monitor as at least this would eliminate the GPU and drivers etc as the cause.

A TV can be used as an external monitor as long as it has HDMI inputs and you have a HDMI cable with the appropriate plug connections to connect between the laptop and the TV

Scroll to p.55 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove the display panel.

On p.53 you’ll find the part numbers for all the panels that are available for the various HP Pavilion 15 models.

The part number for your particular panel should be printed on the back of the panel somewhere.

Once you have determined the correct part number, if you search online by typing the appropriate part number only in the search box of your browser, you’ll get results for suppliers of the part.
